Voice of Customer

Methodology that captures, analyzes and transforms customer feedback into strategic decisions. Post-purchase reviews are its most direct source.

Full definition

Voice of Customer (VoC) is a structured process of collecting, analyzing, and activating customer feedback to guide a company's strategic decisions. It covers all signals emitted by customers: post-purchase reviews, satisfaction surveys, customer service verbatims, social media comments, and platform ratings. The objective is to understand what customers actually experience, not what internal teams assume.

In the e-commerce context, VoC is particularly powerful because signal volume is high and feedback is tied to concrete purchase acts. A well-implemented VoC program quickly identifies friction points in the purchase journey, recurring product defects, unmet expectations, and differentiating elements that generate satisfaction and recommendation.

VoC is often contrasted with traditional market research methods: where a paid panel provides generic opinions on prototypes or hypotheses, VoC captures feedback from real buyers on products they have actually consumed. It is therefore more actionable, more contextual, and more cost-effective.

Concrete example

A luggage merchant (Delsey, for example) semantically analyzes its last 2,000 reviews. It detects that 18% of negative reviews mention wheel durability on an entry-level model, and that 31% of positive reviews highlight the lightness of another model. These two VoC signals directly guide product and marketing decisions.

The same merchant uses these insights to rework its product listing (highlighting lightness in key selling points) and to alert its product team about the wheel issue. Result: NPS improves by 12 points in 3 months and the return rate for the affected model decreases by 23%.

With Review Collect

Review Collect is a VoC tool applied to e-commerce. The automatic collection of post-purchase reviews (40% conversion rate) continuously provides a flow of qualitative data from verified buyers. Semantic analysis automatically identifies recurring themes, positive or negative.

These insights are transformed into concrete action plans: product listing improvement, quality alerts, logistics optimization, customer service training. Review Collect transforms each review into a useful signal well beyond its primary function as social proof.
